New York Setting National Standard for Salt in Diets

New York is asking restaurants and food manufacturers to cut salt in their food products by 25% over the next five years.  This initiative is voluntary at the present, but it appears it is headed toward legislation very soon.

Should this issue be regulated by the government? Its an interesting question..I would hope manufacturers and restaurants would tout their own products with respect to health.

Once again the government is trying to save us from ourselves – not gonna happen. What it does do is increase the cost of dining out. The only way a restaurant chef can truly reduce salt is to make everything from scratch – costing more in ingredients, time, and commercial restaurant equipment to prepare everything in the kitchen instead of outsourcing things like sauces.
