Last night, I attended the Social Media Omaha Club Meeting and listened to Kelly Olexa’s message on how social media had really made a difference in her personal and professional life. I also ran into a great friend of mine, Gary W.  – OmahaCoupons.com

Omahacoupons is a site which is the home to a large number of local businesses can post coupons for their respective businesses. There is a wide assortment of companies. This company has really picked up steam and has a lot of new innovation coming to its site later in 2010. That is all I can say for now.  Talk to Gary if you want more information.  Gary values his clients and is a workaholic with respect to promoting his companies online.

The two of us have such different approaches using social media.

Twitter

Gary uses twitter to inform people about his specials on OmahaCoupons.com. So, he may send out a number of communications before lunch to see if he can get the attention of a few people making lunch plans. In addition, he likes to create conversations which often gain momentum throughout the day.

Blog

During the year he may have contests on his Omaha Coupons  Blog Site. His blog site encourages user participation in order to win prizes. His giveaways happen periodically, but it is effective because everyone understands his message.

Facebook

On Facebook, Gary promotes the companies that participate  with him on a regular basis. His information is always on your wall throughout the day.

Midwest Laboratories use of Social Media

With respect to Social Media at Midwest Laboratories, we are trying to engage conversations, clients, listen to what is being said and add value through providing information or  informing people on happenings at Midwest Laboratories. A different approach that we find very affective with respect to our company.

Conclusion

The “beauty” is that the two of us are constantly telling each other our experiences and trying to find commonality where it may exist and how effective our client engaging is coming. Both of us understand the use of this technology is more than a one-time campaign, we are in it for the long run.  We trade tips and tricks on a monthly basis and are always learning  from our experiences. Its an exciting time and its very cool to connect with other companies who are also active on social media.

With social media, each company/individual must find a way that makes sense. The only set of “best practices” are the ones you implement that ultimately put you closer with your clients and provide a return on your investment.
