Make sure you use proper ethics when using twitter as your marketing communication tool.
Twitter avatar
I have learned that people relate more to people than a company logo. Now, on twitter I have a company id and personal id. Its much easier to be more authentic and real if you have your own picture and bio and people will believe you alot more. The company id is more for general information about the company and a status report. How many of you read status reports.
Twitter bio
Isn’t it great to know a little bit about someone than to follow someone with no background information. I simply will not follow people who follow me if they do not take the time to produce a biography statement. That being said, I can also be selective as to who I follow back based on the information provided on their bio.
Retweet your own tweet | Seriously
I have seen a lot of unethical ways to go about using twitter. The latest one was a social media guru telling people to retweet their original posts so it looks like their post is retweetable. Are twitter users really that stupid?
Retweet other tweets without reading the link | Seriously
If you retweet someone, make sure you know what they are talking about. What if they include a twitter tips link and the link is to a “less reputable site and has nothing to do with twitter tips” . You just lost a ton of credibility. Watch yourself, this type of thing occurs more than you think.
Twitter find/follow Applications
Also, those automatic find/follow applications and auto dm. Is it making your business more profitable. I tried one of these applications and have since stopped using them. Yes, you can build quite a following, but do you really want a large number of people who don’t read your tweets and blog posts. What is the point?
Make a Statement that others want to read and retweet
Being a good writer and marketer go hand -in – hand. Write like you are coaching someone. Write with a purpose for a product or service. Invite others to listen to your post.
Summary
By being more authentic and transparent, your sales and communications with clients will increase at a substantial rate. This should be your focus.

Question about the twitter avatar for a business twitter account: I understand the point about wanting to put a name with a face, but what if you have more than one person tweeting from that account – OR – you want that account to reflect the view of the business and not your face? Instead of using a logo should you use a general picture? I’m really interested in your answer as I’ve been thinking about what we can do! Thanks!
I used our company picture for a long time and kept my personal id personal. However, I really found people want to know the person. Eventhough I list my name on the company bio, it still isn’t the same.
I use the Comcast example.. Look at comcast Company and comcastcares Frank – This is a great model for the type of strategy you want.
Great Question!
