Corn-fed Beef versus Grass-fed Beef

Corn-Fed Beef and Grass-Fed BeefI came across this article, Beef – Corn-fed vs. grass-fed  in the Omaha World-Herald. It is a very good article regarding this topic. It makes some good points regarding the process.

A grass-fed cow takes more days to feed before it’s ready to butcher. (Almost a full year) Also, the article really gives a good perspective of what is involved with both processes. I thought the article served as a good starting place in looking at this topic.

Now check out this video and see what consumers think about the taste of corn-fed and grass fed beef. (Make sure to read the notes regarding the video too!)

What it really comes down to is becoming more educated and understanding how cattle are raised and the care that it takes in raising cattle. In both cases, there are a number of tasks and processes that we, as consumers are unaware of. The article and video both mentioned connecting with the cattle owner.  Let me leave you with another thought.

As you saw in the video, maybe the emphasis also needs to be on food preparation. Are we getting the most out of our food and creating a healthy tasting dish?

In either case, we also need to look at sustainability and feeding a world population. We need to focus on providing food that is healthy and sustainable to insure our food supply does not run out down the road.
