Read labels and watch your sodium intake

SaltYesterday, I went out for lunch and thought I was eating healthy by ordering a chicken salad with salsa. I even checked the menu and from a calorie, fat and protein standpoint and it seemed like I made a good choice. In the afternoon I weighed myself at the gym and realized I gained 5 pounds.  Could this be right? I went back and looked at the foods I ate ranging from a couple of sugar free energy drinks to the vegetables and fruit I had.  Then, it hit me, (sodium).  I had consumed quite a bit of sodium throughout the day.

Foods are loaded with sodium. It is so important to read the labels on food products carried in the grocery store. Also, in my case, if restaurants don’t list salt content in their foods, that should be a sign that the salt content could be greater than 1,000 mg of salt.

I am happy to report that I am down 5 pounds today. Water retention is a result of too much sodium. If you are trying to lose weight or maintain your current weight, controlling your salt intake can really help you on your road to success.
