Some of the BigStories in 2009
1) Weather - The weather was really something this year. Cool summer, Wet Fall, Warm November and Cold/Snow December :
All of these items had a huge affect on sample analysis: Mycotoxin analysis was up almost 3000%. As a result, Midwest Laboratories purchased additional equipment and built resources to help improve turnaround time on mycotoxin analysis. With our process improvements, turnaround time and reporting of results will be at a higher level.
Soil Volume – October was low and November was extremely high. Planning and additional capacity was added last spring in the event that volumes over 18,000 received in a day could be handled.
2) New Advances in Testing - A large number of new clients came to Midwest Laboratories in 2009 in the following areas: Compost, XRF Testing, Foods, Feeds, Oils, Organic Soils Resurgence in the Biodiesel and Ethanol Markets. New analysis packages were added in these areas
3) Support Areas: New advances were made in connecting with clients through Social Media – Twitter and Facebook. Also, new advances were made with respect to sampling supplies and maintaining shipping costs for clients.
